Your guide to the 2026 F1 season

The 2026 Formula One season has begun, and we’ve seen George Russel take home the 1st position trophy in Melbourne, Australia. This is your guide to the 2026 F1 season and beyond.

TL;DR of the guide

If you’ve never watched F1 before, let me quickly break it down for you:

There are 11 teams and 24 cars/drivers on the F1 grid. Each race is about 350km, ranging from 50 to 70 laps. There are 24-26 races each season. A “season” is equal to one year.

F1 works with a point-based system. The top 10 finishing drivers each race get points. The driver on first gets 25 points, second position get 18, and so on. Whichever driver has the most points at the end of the season is declared the world champion.

The champion of the 2026 season was the McLaren man Lando Norris. You’ve probably heard of Michael Schumacker or Lewis Hamilton(or Max Verstappen recently). These are among the “legends” of Formula One. Both Schumacker and Hamilton are 7-time world champions, and Max Verstappen currently holds 4 world championship trophies.
